Discover Anthony's Of Guilford

Walking into Anthony's Of Guilford feels like stepping into a place where time slows down and food still means something. Located at 2392 Boston Post Rd, Guilford, CT 06437, United States, this classic diner-style restaurant has been feeding locals and road-trippers for decades, and that kind of longevity doesn’t happen by accident. I’ve stopped here more times than I can count, usually after a long drive or a busy workday, and the experience is consistently familiar in the best way possible.

The menu leans into comfort food without trying to reinvent it. You’ll find hearty breakfasts served all day, burgers grilled the old-school way, and Greek-inspired staples that reflect the roots of many New England diners. One visit that stands out was a late Saturday morning when the place was buzzing with families, solo regulars, and a couple of EMTs grabbing breakfast after a night shift. The pancakes came out fluffy and hot, the bacon crisp but not overdone, and the coffee kept flowing without having to ask. That kind of service doesn’t come from a script; it comes from experience.

What makes this spot feel like a neighborhood staple is how the staff operates. Orders are taken quickly, substitutions are handled without fuss, and regulars are greeted by name. From a professional hospitality standpoint, that’s a sign of a well-run operation. According to the National Restaurant Association, repeat customers account for a significant portion of restaurant revenue, and places that build routine and familiarity tend to outperform trend-driven concepts over time. Anthony’s clearly understands that, even if they’d never phrase it that way.

Reviews from locals often highlight consistency, which is one of the hardest things to maintain in food service. Dishes taste the same whether you’re visiting on a quiet weekday or during a packed Sunday rush. That consistency usually comes from standardized prep methods, experienced line cooks, and a kitchen that doesn’t cut corners. During one conversation with a longtime server, I learned that many recipes haven’t changed in years, and suppliers are kept local when possible to maintain quality.

There’s also something reassuring about the physical space. The booths are worn but clean, the counter seating invites conversation, and the overall vibe feels honest. In an era where many diners disappear under the pressure of rising costs and changing tastes, restaurants like this survive by staying grounded. Food safety standards are clearly respected as well; visible cleanliness and proper food handling align with guidelines outlined by organizations like the CDC, which emphasize temperature control and sanitation as key factors in preventing foodborne illness.

Location matters too. Sitting right along Boston Post Road, Anthony’s benefits from easy access while still feeling rooted in Guilford rather than geared toward tourists. That balance shows up in the menu prices, which remain reasonable compared to many newer spots in the area. While the restaurant doesn’t chase trends like plant-based novelty items or rotating fusion specials, it does accommodate basic dietary requests when possible, which keeps it accessible without overcomplicating operations.

Of course, no place is perfect. The menu isn’t designed for adventurous eaters, and during peak hours you might wait a bit for a table. But those small trade-offs come with the territory of a well-loved local diner. The fact that people are willing to wait says more than any marketing campaign ever could, and that steady stream of loyal customers tells its own story through lived experience and shared meals.

  • Finally tried "The Den at Anthony's ", and was not disappointed. Nice rotating selection of craft beers, including double fuzzy from NEBC! Only had the buffalo chicken Quesadilla, which was delicious. Bartender was friendly and busy. Portions generous and appeared greatly appreciated. Place has the sports pub vibe with interesting, sometimes industrial style, like the unique moving gear clock!

  • I really enjoy the food here, they really do a great job. The calzones are big and full of filling and most of all tasty. The subs are very delicious and my wife goes crazy for the Chicken Caesar salad. she raves about it. Their meals from the simple parm dinners to the veal chef, are 8 out of 10 in my opinion. But... I have only one issue. When paying for the takeout order, we have been getting the exact same thing for the last 5 visits. All 5 times, there has been a different price. The excuse was that it will show a lower amount on the receipt, but it is really this amount. Not a good look. Food is great but.. If you want a constant delicious meal or pizza, this is the place.

  • I always do take out. I was going to get it delivered (not feeling great today)but it was going to cost almost $10 more. So I decided to go pick it up. I called let them know I am feeling down and out. She told me call when I get there and she will bring it out for me.

The ambiance, coupled with attentive service, elevated the overall dining experience. A five-star gem for those seeking delightful culinary delights in Guilford.

  • Delicious every time! Definitely try the penne vodka or sausage and peppers. We order trays upon trays for our events like birthdays, holidays, etc. The food is always phenomenal, always on time, and the employees are nice enough to help bring them out to the car.

  • I’ve been a customer since the mid 70’s! My favorite Meatball Sub anywhere on the shoreline! Stuffed breads are wonderful! Pizza is superb! Their bread and sauce make the difference!
